Eventually however advantage vas taken of the opportunity presented by the occasion on which Mr. Young was informed that the Government, of the Straits Settlements and Federated Kalay States proposed to entrust to him the re-deloulation of

the pensions under their schemes, on the basis of the new 8% tables, to suggest to him that the matter of his fees and expenses incurred in con- neation with his superfluous report on the long Kong schema might be deferred for consideration in conjunction with an further work (0.ɛ. in cormec- tion with the suggested investigation of mortality experience, or the adoption of the new ®) tables)

Mr.Young replied that on his return from

his interview at the Colonial Office (soms months

previously) he had unoided to ebanden the entire

amount of his charges.

6. On the 21st of April 1928 (vide my

despatch X6.148 of the 27th of April 1925) Er.Young

was informed that the Hong Kong Government had

sselded to entrust to him the re-calculation of

pensions sad prospective pensions up to the end of

1924.
